Barry M Mani Mask "Birthday Suit" |
The dreaded first review... dun dun dun...
Yoohoo! Read This! Before we begin, know that I try my darndest to only use Cruelty Free Products, as far as I'm aware from my research Barry M IS cruelty free, so now that's covered... Lets get going!
(Disclaimer, I'm not sponsored by Barry M)
I'll start off with something simple that we all love... nail polish! And a special nail polish at that!
This is the Barry M Mani Mask Nail polish in "Birthday Suit" and I've heard people refer to it as the BB cream, or 'your lips but better' for your nails... i.e. a perfect camouflage and care nail polish, and to be honest I'm inclined to agree!
This cost me £4 (I know, extortionate) and I've had this for about a month now... And honestly, it's perfect for those times you want to have something on your nails but can't be bothered with the whole routine, base coat, colour, second coat, (Third coat?!) top coat, blahh blahh so long! I want nice simple nails fast please!
If you love the look of natural nails you'll love this, it's simple, yet satisfying. (Hakuna matata!) It does everything it says on the tin (bottle) with a little hint of simple glamour.
So! This is a before shot of my nails, for reference of colour changes and how it sits...
The review-y bit!
Packaging:
With Barry M's iconic bottle, it's hard to go amiss. Beautiful, simple, fit together in your nail polish box wonderfully, what more could you want? And with the addition of a simple dark grey label on the front, this bottle looks extra classy (to me, anyway)

Appearance:
The colour and the glass bottle together make for a pretty, well, pretty looking nail polish! It's almost ethereal with its pastels, making for a feminine, elegant product!
Consistency:
Smooth and velvety, goes on a little streaky but dries completely smooth, even with just one coat. And with two coats? Phew! So nice! Dries quickly too, to a complete matte finish. (my personal favourite)

Smell:
It's nail polish, it smells just like nail polish. Lovely, lovely nail polish.
Saying that, the smell isn't extra strong like some nail polishes, it's just normal smelling, and the smell goes as soon as it dries, as usual.

Appearance on nails:
Ooo now we're getting to the good stuff, well! In the scheme of things it's for you to decide how it looks, but I think it's fantastic. As a base coat (one coat) it's ace, covers your nails and doesn't bubble with another nail polish over the top, and doesn't feel too cakey or thick.
As a single product, two coats and you're on your way! It's not an opaque nail polish, it could be, but you'd have to put maybe 5 or 6 coats on, but it looks great as a semi-opaque polish and works as a 'your nails but better' product perfectly.
As previously mentioned, it dries quickly, dries matte, and doesn't generally need touch ups for at least 5 days, but it's not one you can re-layer, it doesn't do well with that.
In fact it looks awful. Don't do that.

Nails with Two Coats! |
(apologies about the lighting, English spring time doesn't provide consistent light, but you get the jist)
Conclusions...
I love this stuff.
Honestly, it's awesome, and to be honest even with two coats it makes an amazing base coat, but the lazy mo-fo in me loves it even more because if I decide half way through doing my nails I don't want to (can't be bothered to) finish off my nails, they still look great. Really great!
Also, coming from someone who gets flaky nails a lot (I need to eat more bananas) this actually did help a little! I didn't find my nails were as dry or flaky as usual, and I didn't find myself wanting to peel more and more of it off as it flaked (as I usually do... Alas, I'm a picker)
If you've got any yellow tinges to your nails (smokers, I'm looking at you) this will cover it. If you have less than stellar nail colouration, they're a little bit grey or you feel they're just a bit dull, this will fix that.
You want nice simple nails fast? Buy this.
You want pretty nails regardless of time? Buy this.
You want something that'll help with flaking and other not so nice nail things? Buy this.
So that's it from me, hope you enjoyed this review and stay tuned for more riveting reviews and tutorials, Until next time...
Byeeeeee :)
